The U.S. Attorney’s Office has announced a series of immigration enforcement actions in the Northern District of Ohio, involving three separate cases.

Edin Oneil Carrillos-Rodriguez, 36, from Honduras, was charged with illegal reentry after being found in Vickery, Ohio on July 25, 2025. He had previously been removed from the United States at least twice, most recently on December 11, 2014. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Border Patrol-Sandusky Bay Station and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Gene Crawford.

In another case, Vicente Lopez-Gomez, 37, a citizen of Mexico who had been previously removed from the United States on October 3, 2016, was sentenced to time served after pleading guilty to illegal reentry. He remains detained pending deportation. The case involved both the U.S. Border Patrol-Sandusky Bay Station and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in its investigation and is prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Al-Sorghali.

Aurelio Mariscal-Chavez, also a Mexican national aged 37 and previously removed from the United States on February 3, 2016, received a sentence of time served after pleading guilty to illegal reentry. He remains detained pending deportation as well. The investigation for this case was handled by the U.S Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol; prosecution is led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracey Tangeman.

The announcement emphasized that indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt: “An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Each defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Sentencing for any conviction will be determined individually: “If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal records, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense and the characteristics of the violations.”

These actions are part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide effort organized by federal authorities aimed at countering illegal immigration as well as addressing cartel activity and violent crime through coordinated law enforcement resources.
