The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio has announced several immigration enforcement actions in the Western Division. The cases are unrelated and involve charges of illegal reentry into the United States.
U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey J. Helmick sentenced three individuals to time served after each pleaded guilty to illegal reentry under Title 8 U.S. Code 1326. All three remain detained pending deportation.
Gonzalo Diaz-Resendiz, a 29-year-old citizen of Mexico, was previously removed from the United States at least once, most recently on September 6, 2013. He was located in Putnam County, Ottawa, Ohio.
Edin Oneil Carrillos-Rodriguez, a 36-year-old citizen of Honduras, had been removed from the country at least twice before, with his last removal on December 11, 2014. He was found in Sandusky County, Clyde, Ohio.
Raul Samano-Fuerte, a 49-year-old Mexican citizen, had been removed at least four times prior to being found in Huron County, Norwalk, Ohio; his latest removal occurred on March 10, 2009.
In a separate matter, a federal grand jury indicted Jaime Sanchez-Tlehuactle, age 43 and also a citizen of Mexico, for illegal reentry after having been previously removed from the United States—the most recent removal taking place on April 21, 2021. He was found in Wood County near Bowling Green.
Investigations were led by the U.S. Border Patrol-Sandusky Bay Station. Prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Gene Crawford, Matthew Simko, and Ava Rotell Dustin.
“An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to the statement released by authorities.
These enforcement actions fall under Operation Take Back America—a national initiative aimed at using Department of Justice resources to address illegal immigration and target criminal organizations involved in violent crime.
