The final sentencing has been handed down in a 2021 armed carjacking case involving three Cleveland men. Anton Woodley, 22, Cashaun Woodley, 24, and Lavontay Johnson, 23, were all sentenced after pleading guilty to carjacking charges. The trio used firearms to coerce an individual into surrendering his money and vehicle.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on December 12, 2021. A male victim was visiting downtown Cleveland when he met two women who suggested going to a nearby apartment building. One of these women informed the defendants about the victim and assisted in orchestrating the robbery. The Woodley brothers and Johnson ambushed the victim as he left the apartment building, holding him at gunpoint and forcing him into his own car.
During the ordeal, they demanded money from the victim by making him transfer funds via his cellphone while driving around Cleveland. They eventually released him on East 80th Street before fleeing in his vehicle.
Garfield Heights police later recovered the stolen car after pursuing Johnson on foot; a Glock pistol was found along his escape route.
U.S. District Court Judge Pamela A. Barker issued sentences as follows:
– Anton Woodley received a sentence of 78 months (6.5 years) in prison with three years of supervised release.
– Lavontay Johnson was sentenced to 120 months (10 years) with three years of supervised release.
– Cashaun Woodley received a sentence of 100 months (8.3 years) followed by three years of supervised release.
Each defendant must also pay $1,240 in restitution. The investigation was conducted by the FBI Cleveland Division along with local law enforcement agencies including the Cleveland Division of Police and Garfield Heights Police Department.
Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Joines prosecuted this case for the Northern District of Ohio.
