Three men from northwest Ohio have been federally charged for offenses related to child sexual abuse materials following an investigation that led to the execution of 16 search warrants last week, according to an April 24 announcement by authorities. Four additional individuals were arrested on state charges during the same operation.
The arrests are part of a broader effort by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to address crimes involving child sexual abuse materials. The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio is responsible for enforcing federal criminal laws and protecting residents through outreach and victim services across northern Ohio, according to the official website.
Gavin Jaffe, 27, of Millbury; Jared Mishka, 26, of Toledo; and Alexander Rojas, 38, also of Toledo were each charged with receipt and distribution of child pornography. According to court documents cited in the release:
– Jaffe was allegedly active on a social media platform where he sent and received illegal content involving children.
– Mishka’s residence yielded several thumb drives containing thousands of images and videos depicting pre-pubescent children under age twelve. Investigators also found a list with female names near his home as well as girls’ socks.
– Rojas allegedly hid a cellphone during a search warrant execution that was later found to contain multiple images involving infants. Other items seized included sex toys resembling those used by children and clothing intended for young girls.
“These arrests happen to coincide with National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is recognized each April,” said U.S. Attorney David M. Toepfer. “Together with the investigative efforts of our law enforcement partners, my office will aggressively prosecute those who take part in any type of these heinous crimes against children and hold them accountable for these despicable actions.”
The FBI Toledo Resident Agency led this multi-agency effort alongside numerous local police departments and sheriff’s offices throughout northern Ohio counties covered by the U.S. Attorney’s office according to its official website. In total, agents seized 128 digital items considered evidence; thousands of files were located on electronic devices during this operation.
The U.S. Attorney’s office is designated as the chief federal law enforcement entity in its district under the Department of Justice according to its official website. The agency collaborates closely with schools and law enforcement partners across forty northern counties according to its official website.
Assistant United States Attorney Sara Al-Sorghali is leading prosecution efforts for these cases in the Northern District of Ohio.
