A man from Summit County, Ohio, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for crimes related to child sexual abuse materials. Alejandro James Sosa, 38, of Akron, received a sentence of 108 months after pleading guilty to several charges, including receipt and distribution of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, possession of child pornography, destruction or alteration of records in a federal investigation, and creating obscene visual representations involving the sexual abuse of children.
U.S. District Judge Charles Esque Fleming imposed the sentence on February 20. In addition to the prison term, Sosa was ordered to serve ten years of supervised release following his incarceration.
Court documents show that federal agents were investigating suspects in Portage, Summit, and Medina counties for viewing and sharing child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). During this investigation, agents found that Sosa had received or distributed over 10,000 files containing CSAM between January and August 2025. When law enforcement executed a search warrant at his residence, they seized multiple electronic devices containing CSAM depicting infants and toddlers. Sosa admitted that he tried to delete evidence from his device as agents arrived.
The FBI Akron Resident Agency led the investigation with assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Office of Criminal Investigation, Vermilion Police Department, and the FBI Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Toni Schnellinger Feisthamel for the Northern District of Ohio.
The prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood—a national effort coordinated by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices to combat child exploitation online by bringing together resources at all levels of government. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at https://www.justice.gov/PSC.
