Southwest Regional Water District has filed a lawsuit against the City of Trenton, Ohio, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The case centers around allegations that the City unlawfully extended water services into areas designated as part of the District’s service territory, thereby violating federal protections under 7 U.S.C. § 1926(b). This statute prohibits municipalities from limiting or curtailing water services provided by rural water associations during periods of indebtedness to the USDA. The District is seeking declaratory and injunctive relief to prevent further encroachment and is also demanding compensatory damages for lost revenues.
