In a recent court filing, Scott Estep has initiated a statewide class action lawsuit against Aristocrat Leisure, Ltd., Aristocrat Technologies, Inc., and Product Madness, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. The complaint alleges that these companies have engaged in illegal online gambling activities through their smartphone applications, which simulate casino games such as slot machines. Estep claims that these games violate both federal and Ohio state laws, and seeks restitution for himself and other Ohio residents who have lost money playing these games.

The lawsuit argues that Aristocrat’s terms of service are unenforceable because they facilitate illegal gambling activities. Additionally, Estep is seeking recovery under various Ohio statutes including the Ohio gambling loss recovery act and the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act. The case also highlights the social harms caused by such “social casino” games, which reportedly lead to significant financial losses among players.

Estep is represented by attorneys Wesley W. Barnett and Joshua D. Rockwell, with the latter serving as the trial attorney for the plaintiff.
