Planet Home Lending, L.L.C. emerged victorious in a legal battle over a foreclosure case, with the court ruling in its favor against Maurice G. Keyes. The complaint was filed by Planet Home Lending, L.L.C. on March 27, 2025, in the Lake County Court of Common Pleas against Maurice G. Keyes and others.

The case revolves around a promissory note valued at $242,180.99 that Planet Home Lending sought to enforce against Keyes, along with interest and other charges. The company also pursued foreclosure on Keyes’ property located at 35155 Dixon Road, Willoughby Hills, Ohio. On April 10, 2025, Keyes responded to the complaint without legal representation. Subsequently, on May 14, 2025, Planet Home Lending filed for summary judgment which was granted by the court on June 24, 2025.

Keyes raised several objections during the appeal process including claims of procedural due process violations due to not being afforded a hearing before summary judgment was granted. He also contested the denial of his motion to vacate and argued that Planet Home failed to prove standing as well as holder-in-due-course status under R.C. 1303.31.

Despite these contentions, the appellate court found no merit in Keyes’ arguments. It determined that all procedural requirements were met by the trial court when granting summary judgment since Keyes did not file a timely opposition nor provided evidence showing genuine issues for trial.

The plaintiff’s legal team from MDK Legal included Ann Marie Johnson and several others who effectively represented Planet Home Lending throughout this litigation process. Judge John J. Eklund presided over the case alongside Judges Eugene A. Lucci and Scott Lynch who concurred with his opinion affirming the lower court’s decision under Case No: 2025-L-091.
