A Youngstown man has been sentenced to 12.5 years in federal prison after being found guilty of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Jermaine C. Bunn, 49, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge John R. Adams following his conviction by a federal jury in May.

Bunn was prohibited from owning firearms due to previous felony convictions, including assault in 1997 and cocaine possession charges in 2010 and 2021. In addition to his prison term, Bunn will serve three years of supervised release after completing his sentence.

Court records show that on October 25, 2024, Youngstown police responded to a report of an unresponsive driver. Officers arrived at the scene and found Bunn asleep at the wheel of a running vehicle. A loaded Springfield Armory Model XDE-9 semi-automatic pistol was located near the door handle inside the car. Police also observed an alcoholic beverage in the cup holder.

The investigation involved the FBI Youngstown Field Office, Mahoning Valley Violent Crime Task Force, and Youngstown Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorneys Yasmine Makridis and Joseph P. Dangelo prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
