A Michigan man pleaded guilty on April 2 to charges of assaulting a federal officer and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute, according to federal authorities.
Damarko Amir Kimble, age 29 and from Detroit, admitted guilt in a federal court after an incident that occurred on Oct. 7, 2024. Court documents show that Kimble was stopped by federal agents at a service plaza parking lot along the I-80/90 turnpike in Sandusky County because his rental vehicle had expired registration tags. A K-9 officer working with the agents alerted them to possible illegal substances inside the car.
During a probable cause search of Kimble’s vehicle, agents found a backpack containing a plastic bag later confirmed to hold 577.7 grams of pure methamphetamine. As agents attempted to arrest him, Kimble rushed one of the officers and knocked him off his feet before attempting to flee. He was apprehended shortly afterward.
Kimble is scheduled for sentencing on July 14. The sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The U.S. Border Patrol Sandusky Bay Station conducted the investigation leading up to Kimble’s indictment. Assistant United States Attorney Dexter L. Phillips for the Northern District of Ohio is prosecuting the case.
