Jonnell L. Ammons, also known as Nell, has been sentenced to 125 months in federal prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy that operated in Summit County and surrounding areas. U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent handed down the sentence after a federal jury found Ammons guilty in September 2025 of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as use of a communication facility to facilitate a felony drug offense. In addition to his prison term, Ammons will serve three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, from May 2023 through January 2024, Ammons was part of an Akron-based organization distributing methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine throughout Northeast Ohio. The group used both residential and commercial properties in Akron to store drugs prior to sale. Firearms were employed by members of the conspiracy for protection during storage. Law enforcement seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, three loaded firearms, more than $8,500 in cash, a Rolex watch, and a Chevrolet Corvette during the investigation.

The case involved seven defendants from Akron. All have now been sentenced:
– Terrance D.N. McCormick (TNasty), 41; sentenced to 420 months
– Jonez S. Ammons (Nez), 34; sentenced to 151 months
– Karim S. Davis, 33; sentenced to 42 months
– Tyler J. Sands, 24; sentenced to 140 months
– Ashley E. Steiner, 36; sentenced to 102 months
– Jonte J. Averiett (Sticks), 24; sentenced to 30 months

The DEA Cleveland Field Office conducted the investigation using wiretaps.

Assistant United States Attorneys Peter E. Daly and Joseph P. Dangelo prosecuted the case on behalf of the Northern District of Ohio.
