A former employee is taking legal action against a major foodservice distributor, alleging discriminatory practices and wrongful termination. On January 30, 2026, Karen Lipps filed a complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio against Northern Frozen Foods, Inc., accusing the company of disability and sex discrimination.

Karen Lipps, who worked as a Regional Business Development Manager for Northern Frozen Foods since 2019, claims that her termination was unjust and rooted in discrimination based on her gender and disability. According to the complaint, Lipps was the only female manager in her department and faced differential treatment compared to her male colleagues. Despite being promoted to manage multiple territories without a corresponding salary increase, Lipps’s achievements were not acknowledged in company communications while those of her male counterparts were highlighted. Furthermore, she alleges that after disclosing her medical condition—a digestive disability requiring surgical intervention—her requests for reasonable accommodations were met with biased treatment. The lawsuit states that when a customer issue arose involving another male colleague’s account, Lipps was unfairly blamed despite having no oversight over that client.

Lipps’s complaint details several instances where she felt marginalized due to her gender. For example, during company events requiring travel where spouses attended, reservations were made under her husband’s name rather than hers—a practice not applied to male managers. Moreover, she was often referred to condescendingly as a “good girl” by J.Harry Moore (JHM), Vice President of Territory Sales. In addition to these grievances, Lipps asserts that after expressing interest in formally assuming additional responsibilities she had been unofficially managing since May 2024, she discovered efforts were underway to recruit a male candidate for the position instead.

The lawsuit accuses Northern Frozen Foods of violating both federal and state laws—specifically Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), along with Ohio Title 4112—by discriminating against Lipps based on sex and disability. She seeks compensatory damages for emotional distress and lost wages among other losses incurred due to what she describes as wrongful termination disguised as position elimination.

Represented by attorneys Erica Ann Probst and Andrea L. Salvino from Kemp, Schaeffer & Rowe Co., L.P.A., Lipps is requesting a jury trial for this case identified as Case No. 5:26-cv-00251-JRA before Judge John R. Adams.
