The Federal Bar Association (FBA) – Northern District of Ohio Chapter announced on Apr. 8 that it will hold its Second Annual Northern District of Ohio Bench-Bar Conference on May 14, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Carl B. Stokes U.S. Court House in Cleveland.
The event is designed to give lawyers practical insights into litigation and allow them to learn directly from members of the federal judiciary and court officials. Registration fees are set at $120 for non-FBA members, $100 for FBA members, and $80 for government lawyers. The registration includes a lunch reception following a three-hour Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program, which has already received approval.
Speakers at the conference will include Chief Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; Judges Solomon Oliver, Jr., Patricia A. Gaughan, and Benita Y. Pearson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; Magistrate Judge Reuben J. Sheperd; David M. Toepfer, U.S. Attorney for the district; and Christian M. Capece, Clerk of Court.
According to organizers, topics covered during panel discussions will range from discovery practices and case management to motion practice, brief writing, oral advocacy skills, as well as an overview on how judges approach their roles in federal court proceedings.
Additional sessions will address procedures within the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and provide updates from both the Clerk’s Office and U.S Attorney’s Office serving northern Ohio.
The conference aims to foster dialogue between bench and bar while offering attorneys continuing education credits.
