A Cleveland man was indicted on Mar. 27 following a federal investigation into alleged drug trafficking activities in the Greater Cleveland area.
The indictment of Marcus Hopper, age 57, comes after nearly a year of investigation by federal agents. The case highlights ongoing efforts to address large-scale drug distribution in the region.
According to court documents, authorities executed search warrants in February at two residences located on Edgehill Road in Cleveland Heights and Penrose Avenue in East Cleveland. These locations were suspected of being used for major drug operations. During the searches, agents seized more than 15 pounds of MDMA (ecstasy), nearly 12 pounds of cocaine, 21 grams of cocaine base (crack), 10 grams of fentanyl, bulk amounts of marijuana, over $211,000 in cash, and several devices used for processing cocaine.
Hopper has been charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), and cocaine base (crack). If convicted, his sentence will be determined by the Court based on factors such as any prior criminal record and his role in the offense.
The Drug Enforcement Administration led the investigation that resulted in these charges. Assistant United States Attorney Payum Doroodian is prosecuting the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
Authorities remind that an indictment is only an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
