An Akron man has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for distributing drugs and illegally possessing ammunition. Antoine D. Cook, 46, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent after being found guilty by a jury in June.

Cook was convicted of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and being a felon in possession of ammunition. His prior convictions include multiple counts of domestic violence (1996, 2010, 2012, and 2014), distribution of a controlled substance (2002), aggravated assault (2012 and 2015), and felonious assault (2018).

According to court documents, Cook was apprehended on May 1, 2024, with about 25 grams of methamphetamine and three grams of cocaine packaged for sale. He also had more than 80 rounds of ammunition despite his status as a convicted felon. Due to his criminal history involving serious drug and violent offenses, Cook received enhanced sentencing as both a career offender and an armed career criminal.

In addition to the prison term, Cook will serve eight years of supervised release following his incarceration.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives led the investigation with support from the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. Assistant United States Attorney Peter E. Daly prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio.
